Late 19th century if you were ambitious and hard working you were a "stemwinder"- somebody who habitually wound his timepiece.
In 1913 a Hamilton watch add claimed their pocket watch to "lead it's owner to form desirable habits, of promptness and precision". Soon after that the watch was a obvious symbol of having attained "middle class" or "having arrived".
The watch face can symbolize different meanings to so many. It could be to give yourself the gift of time. It can represent new beginnings and opportunities or my favorite. time is a limited resource, must be used wisely.
 28 inches long and a simple silver chain gives this statement necklace a long line that brings the eye up for a tall lean look. A unique vintage Elgin National pocket watch face. Elgin was founded in Elgin Illinois in 1864 and they were the first to make a railroad grade pocket watch with took 6 months to complete. silver  bead cap on a quartz crystal finish off this pendant a aprox 4" in length.Another little detail is the rhinestone set charm at clasp. Big Bold and Beautiful. Could be paired with a plain white tee for a casual night out, or a classic black dress for a special occasion.
